Ap-Fi – Alternative Planetary Futures Institute

The Alternative Planetary Futures Institute (Ap-Fi) conducts horizon scanning, foresight research, and advocacy centered on planetary consciousness.

This is accomplished under the leadership of our world-class scientific council and by the contribution of a volunteer planetary creative council (groups of individuals and organizations) around the world that connect planetary views and futures research to help expand imagination about the possible futures and build preferred futures.

Millennium Project

The Millennium Project is a global participatory think tank established in 1996 under the American Council for the United Nations University. We became an independent non-profit in 2009 and we now have 72 Nodes (a group of institutions and individuals that connect local and global perspectives) around the world.

Purpose: Improve humanity’s prospects for building a better future.

Mission: Improve thinking about the future and make that thinking available
through a variety of media for feedback to accumulate wisdom about the future for better decisions today.

Vision: A global foresight network of Nodes, information, and software, building a global collective intelligence system recognized for its ability to improve prospects for humanity. A think tank on behalf of humanity, not on behalf of a government, or an issue, or an ideology, but on behalf of building a better future for all of us.

Web3 World Society

Securing values – digital. decentral. liberal.

The Web3 World Society is the think tank, research institute and digital policy consultancy for a fair, sustainable and human-centric future of the connected world. Our association aims to use diplomacy to set impulses for the safe further development of the World Wide Web with an European approach for global issues.

We want to promote the discourse in favor of a liberal economic and security policy in a digitally transformed, multipolar world order.

We strengthen the idea of decentralism as a counter-model to the centralized development of the Internet, which endangers our free, democratic values. Our approach is to point out technical rather than regulatory solutions and to bring these to the attention of decision-makers in business, politics, the military and the media. We have developed the principle of dDPI: decentralized Digital Public Infrastructure.

We want to focus on people’s individuality. Decentrally embedded systems should take into account the idea of the sovereignty of clusters as well as the networking of these groups on global issues. A democracy thrives on the diversity and self-determination of local, regional or cultural-spatial identities, which together address the major issues of our humanity. Technology can help us achieve this.

This is where our think tank comes in and helps governments and large organizations to drive forward this digital transformation of the interconnected society.

Internet Archive

About the Internet Archive

The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. Our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.

We began in 1996 by archiving the Internet itself, a medium that was just beginning to grow in use. Like newspapers, the content published on the web was ephemeral – but unlike newspapers, no one was saving it. Today we have 28+ years of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine and we work with 1,200+ library and other partners through our Archive-It program to identify important web pages.

As our web archive grew, so did our commitment to providing digital versions of other published works. Today our archive contains:

UN AI Advisory Board

To foster a globally inclusive approach, the UN Secretary-General convened a multi-stakeholder High-level Advisory Body on AI for 12 months from 26 October 2023 to undertake analysis and advance recommendations for the international governance of AI.

The Advisory Body comprised 39 preeminent AI leaders from 33 countries from across all regions and multiple sectors, serving in their personal capacity.

  • A call for Interdisciplinary Expertise
Selected from over 2,000 nominations, this diverse group combined cutting edge expertise across public policy, science, technology, anthropology, human rights, and other relevant fields.
  • A Multistakeholder, Networked Approach
The Body included experts from government, private sector and civil society, engaged and consulted widely with existing and emerging initiatives and international organizations, to bridge perspectives across stakeholder groups and networks.
  • An Agile, Dynamic Process
The Body worked at speed to deliver its interim report in under 2 months, engage over 2,000 AI experts stakeholders across all regions in 5 months, and produce its final report in under 3 months. Keeping pace with technical and institutional developments let the Advisory Body provide high-level expert and independent contributions to ongoing national, regional, and multilateral debate.

UN & AGI Policy

The UN is actively developing AI policy, focusing on ethical, human rights-based, and mandate-led approaches, with the UN Secretary-General promoting proactive AI adoption across the UN system to support innovation and address potential harms.

The UN system is committed to taking a proactive, ethical, human rights-based and mandate-led approach to adopting AI internally in its work. Under the vision outlined in the UN 2.0 Policy Brief, the Secretary-General is promoting a proactive approach for UN system organizations to use new technologies, such as AI, to support all steps of the innovation process, to address gender inequality, discrimination and bias in artificial intelligence data models, and to invest in predictive and prescriptive analytics, enhanced with machine learning and artificial intelligence.
